Symptoms

Do you need ear wax removal?

Excessive and impacted ear wax can cause pain, reduce hearing and affect balance. Microsuction is a clean and comfortable solution.

Earache or a feeling of blocked ears

Hearing that seems duller than it used to be

Balance problems caused by excessive wax

A 'whistling' hearing aid, or reduced hearing-aid function

If any of these sound familiar, wax may be the cause — and if it isn’t, we’ll tell you honestly and point you in the right direction, free of charge.

The treatment

What is microsuction?

Microsuction is considered safer than other methods such as irrigation — which is why we offer it. A small, thin, low-pressure suction device removes the wax gently and comfortably, while an otoscope and specialist light loupes give a clear view throughout the treatment.

No water is involved, so the process is less messy than irrigation and cuts down the risk of infection. Please expect some noise during the treatment. Your comfort is important to us, and you can withdraw your consent at any time during the process.

No wax? No fee —
that’s our guarantee

If upon examination you have no ear wax, we will not charge a fee. If there’s no wax but you are still experiencing hearing loss, we’ll recommend an audiologist for a hearing test — free of charge. And if we find an infection, we’ll recommend you visit your GP.

Occasionally it takes more than one visit to remove all the wax — you only ever pay one fee. Please allow up to 30 minutes for your appointment.

Before your appointment

Use olive oil drops, or an olive oil spray such as Earol (available from most chemists), for at least 4–5 days before treatment — it makes hardened or impacted wax much easier to remove. Please avoid chemist products containing chemicals: they can irritate the ear and don’t soften the wax.
